Kate Austin-Avon was raised in Killington, Vermont, and now resides in Glens Falls, New York. She has been showing her work since 2006.

Her studio is located in The Shirt Factory, an arts and healing center located in a renovated factory. She is also part of the management team for the building, which features more than 40 artists’ studios and businesses.

She served on the board of North Country Arts Center for five years, including two as Co-President. She was committee chair for NCAC’s annual Colors of Fall Arts and Crafts Festival for four years. She also serves on the board of Art in the Public Eye.

She was Arts Writer and Calendar Editor of The Chronicle, a weekly newspaper, for two years before launching Advokate, a firm that helps artists and small businesses with their promotion efforts through web design, social media, graphic and print design, consultation and more, in October 2010. She is married to musician Cory Austin-Avon and together they reside in Glens Falls with their three cats: Annie, Chloe and Jones.

Her work is a mix between autobiographical works and playful abstracts. Lately, the work has been making itself – a Rorschach test of what looks right where, rather than a preconceived concept. Some of her favorite media includes kosher salt, inks, watercolor, rubbing alcohol, Windex, cheesecloth, plastic wrap, her own hair, crayons, gesso, and found objects.

This is her artist’s statement: “Wheeee!”
